Tribute To a Dear Friend - Frank Duba



This is a special post to honor the passing of a friend and fellow foodie, Frank. Frank loved our tong yuen (rice flour balls) recipe and was intrigued with the idea of
"chinese matzoh balls." Original Post
We invite all our friends and visitors to pay tribute by contributing ideas of how you would use tong yuen in your own recipes or how you would incorporate it into a different style of cuisine, for example "tong yuen matzoh ball soup". Please leave all ideas in comments.

similar to this one. Rice ball stuffed with mince meat mixed with onion and garlic.

we use rice flour to make hot cereal. kinda like farina, but rice. i use evaporated milk (for a richer flavor), whole milk (helps combine e milk & water), water (helps cook better), cinnamon, vanilla, a little butter. its my favorite (i make farina, and corn as well). not sure how that would translate with tong yuen, but i could see something like tapioca happening.

oh and sugar! i knew i was forgetting something. i like to use brown sugar cane. better flavor and unbleached.

Jen- I can have that for Breakfast every morning mmmmmmm.Do you still make this type of cereal?
Mhel- I have never had Hainanese CHicken with rice balls but i can't wait try that and make it..what fun!

yes I do. my grandmother taught me how to make them. my aunts and grandmother used to make them for us kids, my aunt would wake up and yell "what kind does everyone want!?" lol my mother & grandmother were raised eating them too. they're typical cereals for babies and kids in pr. my friends used to make me make it for them bc I make it like a grandmother would! lol I make them all for brianlily and have always made them for myself as a dessert! it's nice to pass them on to her :o)
